Experience Columbia SC (ECSC) has named Lemuel Brown as its new Human Resources Manager.

“I am pleased and excited to take on this new venture here at ECSC,” said Brown. “It is my desire to become a valuable contributor to the organization and I look forward to developing and growing positive working relationships with each team member here!”

Brown is a graduate of Limestone College and brings with him nine years of experience in the HR field. His most recent role was Human Resources Supervisor for Richland County Government, where he managed employment, classification and compensation, employee relations, ADA, performance management, the department’s budget and various special projects.

“We’re excited to welcome Lem to our Experience Columbia SC team,” said President and CEO Bill Ellen. “Lem has a solid background in Human Resources and I’m confident he’ll bring fresh ideas that will enhance our workplace environment. We feel very fortunate that Lem was drawn to the work we do here.”

While the past year has posed challenges to all industries, those in Human Resources have certainly had their work cut out for them reviewing existing policies and plans, as well writing new ones into existence. Brown is ready to take what he’s learned from the COVID-19 pandemic into this new role with him.

“The ability to adapt to sudden changes is crucial and organizations must clearly and effectively plan for life/ world events that may uproot normal life as we know it,” said Brown. “As an HR professional, I have seen the direct impact a life event such as COVID-19 can have on organizations financially, the direct effect on its employees and the importance of planning ahead to mitigate those damaging effects as much as practically possible.”

Brown has lived in Columbia for almost 22 years and enjoys hiking at Congaree National Park, visiting local art exhibits, Soda City Market, going for a walk or run at Riverfront Park and meeting up with friends for drinks in the Vista, with COA Agaveria y Cocina being a particular favorite.
